1st International Forum on Native Stingless Bees

On May 20th, 2024, we partnered with BioAmaz and national institutions to hold the first virtual forum on Native Stingless Bees in Peru. National Geographic Society Regional Director of LatinAmerica, Gael Almeida, shared a kind message at the start of the event encouraging biocultural events such as this one. Over 150 attendees joined from multiple countries including Peru, Mexico, USA, UK, Argentina, Germany and Denmark to learn all about stingless bees. We counted with 20+ speakers from the Amazon Rainforest as well as other locations worldwide sharing their expertise and experience in scientific research, conservation initiatives, policy, education, storytelling and beekeeping.

Forum “La Biodiversidad y el Futuro de la Amazonía”

On Aug 28th, 2023, we held an in-person forum for 100+ high school students in Lima, Peru. Our president, Dr. Rosa V. Espinoza, opened the event with a keynote to share about Amazon Research Internacional and the initiatives we pursue to explore and protect untapped biodiversity in the Amazon Rainforest. Following the keynote, there were two rounds of discussion where various experts joined Dr. Rosa to discuss about the “Biodiversity and the Future of the Amazonia” including Dr. Miguel Grau (tropical diseases), Sandra Valle (CEO Insecta, vegan fashion), Maura Fernandez (GYBN Peru Representative), Nelly Luna (Co-founder Ojo Publico, environmental journalist), Musuk Nolte (indigenous photography), Pamela Valle (CEO Endemica, art and fashion), Felipe Huanachín (Microbial scientist) and Ornella Muñoz (Amazonian engineering student). Students engaged with the speakers and asked many questions about their career paths, how to get involved with conservation in the Amazon, and more. Congresswoman Ruth Luque (President of the Commission of Indigenous People) also joined us as a way to connect local authorities with the current concerns and ideas for Amazonian conservation. The Municipality of Surco kindly offered their venue for this event, and contributed with providing all attendees with a moringa plant.
